Be inspired! You're warmly invited to attend our first series of talks during PTG Stratford's NEW national touring exhibition 'Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover; it may take you on another journey' (5 May - 23 June 2023).
Come along and listen to a group of printmakers in Taranaki. This lively 'couch' discussion will delve into the techniques of printmaking, analyse the medium itself, and look at their own place in the Taranaki art scene.

Author's Talk with
David Hill
Where: Percy Thomson Gallery, Stratford
When: Thu 25 May 2023, 5:30pm–7:00pm
New Plymouth-based author, David Hill, has published more than 40 books and is widely known for his young adult fiction.
Hill will discuss some of his most recent published works and talk about the importance of literature, and its impact on how people view the world. This talk will take place in the Gallery surrounded by artists who are inspired by the written word. Currently showing at PTG Stratford - New Zealand's largest art collection from the Arts House Trust - 'Don't Judge A Book By Its' Cover; it may take you on another journey'.

Artist Floor Talk with Dr Elliot Collins

When: Friday 2 June, 12:30-1pm
Lunchtime floor talk with WITT Te Pukenga lecturer and Taranaki artist, Dr Elliot Collins. He will examine his works and many others included in our current exhibition 'Don't Judge a Book By Its' Cover; it may take you on another journey', NOW SHOWING AT PTG (5 May - 23 June).
Collins' works look at the ideas of the present/absent texts within memorials or 'memory markers' in Aotearoa NZ, as well as the motifs that represent a particular kind of identity-forming narrative.
"My practice draws reference to poetry and language".

Artist Floor Talk with Chauncey Flay
Where: Percy Thomson Gallery, Stratford
When: Saturday 10 June, 1pm - 1:45pm
Chauncey's practice brings together a diverse range of materials including coral, concrete, brick and stone.
For this talk, Flay will talk about his most recent exhibition at Central Gallery, in Christchurch, entitled 'One Million Marks'.
331 days of painstaking work to complete - he will tell stories about gathering 100 stones from across the South Island, including masonry from Christchurch heritage buildings like the Anglican Cathedral, the Arts Centre and the Timeball Station. He then made a bound book containing 10,000 marks created with the unique paint.
