Frances Hodgkins - The Link with Kapiti
25 July - 21 August 2008
The exhibition explores the links between Frances Hodgkins and Kapiti showing the essential early Frances Hodgkins from which her later work would spring. She was born in Dunedin in 1869 and during her life was a prolific artist and travelled overseas three times. Stimulated by European art, she established a unique place for herself in the British Modern Movement. She died in England in 1947. This exhibition has been reassembled for this limited tour by Mark Roach and Exhibition Services. The Field Collection has for years been a mecca for any serious research on Frances Hodgkins, although access has been limited. This exhibition was made possible by the efforts of the Mahara Gallery in Waikanae, Avenal Mc Kinnon (curator), Celia Thompson, Peter Trim, the Kapiti District Council and the Field Collection Trust. Taranaki Electricity Trust has financed the Taranaki exhibition.
